Ordering Process

David works with many of his clients to develop custom masks for new works, existing plays and individual use. Special attention is paid to the style in which they are going to be used, the aesthetic needs of the production and the character traits needed. He also guarantees that all of the masks he makes for theatrical use will be durable and comfortable to wear.

Custom orders are priced according to each individual project. Detailed estimates are provided to the client. Prices for custom masks generally run from $600-1500 depending on the amount of sculpting involved.

The 7-Step Process of having custom masks made involves:

  1. DIALOGUE:
David and the client dialogue and reach an understanding of the characters that the masks will become. (This can also include meeting with the actors who will wear the masks in order to incorporate their individual rhythms and personalities into the mask.)

  2. CLIENT REVIEW:
The client reviews the initial sculptures (This is often done via email through a review of digital photographs of the sculptures from which the masks will be made).

  3. CLIENT MODIFICATIONS:
The client suggests any changes or modifications.

  4. 2ND CLIENT REVIEW:
Client reviews incorporated change for final approval.

  5. MASK IS CREATED:
David casts the scupture and creates the mask.

  6. CUSTOM FITTING:
The masks are custom fitted to the actor to ensure comfort and reliability on stage.

  7. FINAL MASK PAINTING:
The masks are painted and sealed in a color scheme that is in harmony with make-up, costume, and scenic designs of the play.
